Spiritual Encouragement

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,

and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,

the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and might,

the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.

He shall not judge by what his eyes see,

or decide disputes by what his ears hear,

but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,

   and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;

and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,

and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,

and faithfulness the belt of his loins.

   (Isaiah 11:1-15)

Spiritual Encouragement

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

NEWSFLASH | Thanksgiving Potluck | Thursday 11/23 @ 1 pm | Sidpac Owu Room

Welcome to the MIT Graduate Christian Fellowship!

Come join us at our Thanksgiving Potluck this Thursday! Please invite your friends and labmates. It will be a great time with eating, games, and enjoying each others' company. Please RSVP here (but feel free to come even if you haven't RSVPed).

What: Thanksgiving potluck and games

Where: Sidney Pacific Owu Rom

When: Thursday, November 23, 1 pm

Contact: Steering Committee (mit-gcf-steer@mit.edu)

Announcements

  • Weekly prayer: come pray with us! Prayer requests also welcomed. Note: time is changed from Monday to Wednesday 11 am!
    • Wednesdays 11-12, Basement of W11 (W11-080).
    • Contact: Grace (graceg@mit.edu)
    • Please email Grace if you want to attend the informal prayer meetings but your schedule does not allow you to meet regularly.
  • A GCF Thanksgiving week tradition: the Grand Tour of Boston is Saturday. Far more than the Freedom Trail, learn about the history, art, architecture, and beauty of the birthplace of American independence… we will explore America's most interesting neighborhood (Beacon Hill), walk a piece of the Underground Railroad, and tread in the steps of the Sons of Liberty. We will leave at 9:45 am from in front of the inbound T in Kendall Sq, or you can meet us at 10 am at Park Street on the terrace between the T and Park Street Church. Return will be about 5 pm if you go the whole way. You will need comfortable walking shoes, money for lunch and snacks (pastry in the North End, etc.) and for 4 T fares if you do not have a pass. We will return partly by boat, which will be a little cooler and windier, so I recommend layering. With a week to go, the current weather forecast is for the mid-forties Fahrenheit. VERY IMPORTANT: our goal is to make it to Old Ironsides in time to go on board. As it is considered a national treasure, you must go through the equivalent of airport security to get on it. That means official ID is needed—a U.S. driver's license, or a passport for internationals. PLEASE RSVP on the Google doc so we don't leave without you!
  • Veritas Forum Planners Needed: Veritas Forum is an event hosted on different campuses with the intention of asking life's hardest questions. The MIT event is a joint action of the different campus Christian groups. Planners are needed to help make this event a success. The event will likely take place in the mid spring, and the weekly time commitment is approximately 2 hours. Numerous perks will include (i) something you can put on your CV, (ii) interaction with MIT's Christian faculty, (iii) the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you have participated in something bigger than yourself. If you are interested or have any questions please contact Carla Grobler (carlau@mit.edu).

Prayer Square

  • Pray that we have thankful hearts in all circumstances.
  • Pray for reconciliation, peace and understanding in our society.
  • Pray that our desires may be aligned with God's desire for the world.

Spiritual Encouragement

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

-- Colossians 3:15-17

Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for

 "All flesh is like grass

and all its glory like the flower of grass.

  The grass withers,

    and the flower falls,

but the word of the Lord remains forever."

And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

Spiritual Encouragement

"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment."
