GCF Newsflash! Goodbye to Graduates | Fri. 5/16 @ 7:30pm | Mezz. Lounge

Welcome to the MIT Graduate Christian Fellowship!

It's almost the end of the semester!  For many, that means finishing classes and transitioning into summer internships, vacations, and more lab -- but for some, this means a farewell to MIT.  This Friday is our last official large group of the semester, and we will be celebrating and saying goodbye to GCFers who will be graduating and moving on in the world.  Come to hear these brothers and sisters share wisdom from their time at MIT and to prayerfully send them off!

If you are graduating sometime in 2014 and haven't yet contacted Kevin, send him an email as soon as possible.

Announcements
  • UCO Praise Night is this Thursday 5/15 from 8-9:30pm in the Student Center, Room 407.  Come join fellow believers across campus for this great time of communal worship!  To volunteer or for more info, contact Mark Ku.

  • The GCF Vision/Leadership Discussion dinner will be on Friday 5/30 from 7-9pm in the Sidney-Pacific 3rd fl. kitchen.  We will discuss this past year and gather thoughts on GCF's direction in the coming year.  We will also ask for help in specific leadership roles.  Please attend to learn more and/or if you are interested in serving as: president, treasurer, large group coordinator, webmaster, newsflash/communications, Thrive, retreat helper, worship/AV helper -- or in other ways you see your gifts contributing to edifying others in the fellowship.  All are welcome!  Email Peng if you can attend.

  • Are you interested in learning more about other religions in a group with other MIT students?  The Addir Fellows Program is a year-long interfaith discussion setting, bringing together people of all faiths.  They are looking for more applicants for next year.  Contact Sam Elder for more.

  • GCF will not have regular large groups over the summer. Instead, there will be various smaller-scale summer groups and sporadic social events. We'll send more information about those opportunities soon, but think about whether you'd be interested in organizing a gathering/outing.
Prayer Square
  • Praise for God's provision and blessings as this semester comes to a close!  He has been faithful.
  • Pray for all who are finishing papers, studio projects, theses, and more -- that they would remain close to Jesus in the midst of the pressure and deadlines.
  • Pray for those who are making plans for the summer, that God would give wisdom and discernment and that these plans would be ultimately glorifying to Him.
Community Corner
Last week, we had Mardi Keyes of L'Abri fellowship with us to discuss the role of women in leadership.  What became apparent was the influence of historical gender biases on translations of the Bible.  We looked in particular at 1 Timothy 2, which contains vague and indefinite phrasing when compared to the original Greek with regards to the roles of women in the church.

If you missed last week's talk, you can find the recording here.

Verse of the Week
"[God] made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.  He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.  You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great.  You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip."
_ Psalm 18:32-26
