NEWSFLASH | Town Hall Meeting | Friday 1/29 7.30pm | W20-307 (Mezzanine Lounge)

Welcome to the MIT Graduate Christian Fellowship!

Come reflect, plan, and pray for GCF as we enter the spring semester. Whether you have strong ideas for things to change/keep or haven't been involved much but would like to hear about what's going on (and/or how you can get more involved), you're invited to come!

Topic: Town Hall Meeting
Where: W20-307
When: Fri 1/29 @ 7.30pm
Contact: LG Team (mit-gcf-lg@mit.edu)

Announcements

  • The GCF Winter Retreat is coming up on February 12-14 in Toah Nipi! This is always a good chance to reflect, rest, and dedicate the upcoming semester to God. Unlike the fall retreat, we do all of the planning and organization for ourselves as a fellowship, so we need your help! E-mail Sam (same@mit.edu) ASAP if you're interested in joining a retreat-organizing committee.
  • Looking for new friends with whom to study the Bible, navigate graduate school, or think more about what Christianity means for our lives? Check out a small group near you!
  • Interested in joining a group of seekers reading Mere Christianity over a free dinner? Sunday nights, 7.30 pm - W11 Community room (W11-155). Contact: gig@mit.edu
  • Join a weekly prayer gathering (or email mit-gcf-fun@mit.edu to start your own!):
    • Monday 12:00-1:00pm, 500 Tech Square, NE47-219. Contact: Anya (aburkart@mit.edu)
    • Tuesday 12:00-12:30pm, Building 46 atrium (3rd floor). Contact: Madeline (mywong@mit.edu)

Prayer Square

  • Pray that we would "let [our] light shine before" our classmates, labmates, and supervisors to the glory of God
  • Pray that this campus would come to trust in Christ alone
  • Pray that Jesus would be at the center of the coming semester

Spiritual Encouragement

From C.H. Spurgeon -
"The apostle tells us, 'Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!' (Phil. 4:4). Let us be thankful that the Lord lives, for 'He is [our] rock' (Ps. 92:15). 'Nor is there any rock like our God' (1 Sam. 2:2). He is ready to help those who serve Him. Believer, the fountain of your joy is never dried up. If, like Jonah, your plants are withered (Jonah 4:7), your God still lives. If, like Job, your goods have been plundered (Job 1:15), the highest good is still yours….You have a possession that is unfading, a promise that is unfailing, and a Protector who is unchanging. Though you live in a faithless world, you dwell in a faithful God."

Spiritual Encouragement

Bel has bowed down, Nebo stoops over; their images are consigned to the beasts and the cattle. The things that you carry are burdensome, a load for the weary beast. They stooped over, they have bowed down together; they could not rescue the burden, but have themselves gone into captivity. Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, You who have been borne by Me from birth and have been carried from the womb; even to your old age I will be the same, and even to your graying years I will bear you! I have done it, and I will carry you; and I will bear you and I will deliver you.

Isaiah 46:1-4

NEWSFLASH | Christmas Party | Friday 12/11 7pm | Mezzanine Lounge (W20-307)

Welcome to the MIT Graduate Christian Fellowship!

Come join us for dinner, carols and a gift exchange as we celebrate the coming of Jesus, our Prince of Peace and Savior of the World : )

Please bring a wrapped gift (<$10) for the gift exchange! It can also be a white elephant gift, but be loving and bring something that can be useful to other people. Good example: a book that you have read (and enjoyed!) and would want to bless someone else with it. Bad example: a broken spoon.

  • Appreciated one of the LG talks this semester? Want to encourage/thank our speakers? We'll have cards to sign at the Christmas Party (last chance!).

  • Next week: large group will not occur on 12/18, 12/25, and 1/1. The first large group in 2016 will take place on 1/8/2016 during IAP. Stay tuned for details!

Prayer Square

  • Pray that the world would see the power and glory of God in the midst of suffering

  • Pray that this campus would find joy and peace in Christ as we celebrate Christmas

Spiritual Encouragement

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.
